You Will Meet a Tall Dark StrangerDirected byWoody Allen
Not at all different from his other movies, in fact i found it very similar to Husbands and Wives, and giving nothing new to me as a viewer. But this is totally Woody Allen and no matter how many times he keeps on making the same movies, you never get bored. His sarcasm and black humor towards life are too authentic to get old. You either get him or you don't. Enjoyable movie, especially for Woody Allen fans
I'm resigned to the fact that Woody Allen's work hasn't been terribly cinematic in recent years. That said, I think TALL DARK STRANGER is the best work he's done so far in what is probably the twilight phase of his career.
This film was really great. The only problem I had with it was the narrator's voice and tone. It was too '2000s romantic comedy trailer voiceover' for my tastes and I didn't think it fit with the movie's tone. Regardless, I thought the movie played itself off very well as a comedy with very sad/confused characters. I found myself laughing while shaking my head a lot. Allen also did a great job with visual motifs.
Even a minor Woody Allen film can still demonstrate incredible wit and almost psychoanalytical acumen for the fallibility of the human condition, the petty but also the deeply existential fears of bodily decay, sexual attraction, recognition, wealth, companionship. Honest in its low-key ambitions it has a superb ensemble cast and a wry smile on the trappings of art, literature, business and irrationalism. Enjoyable.
