This clever satire tells the story of Oscar, a liberal filmmaker who, in doing research for a film about the social problem of machismo in Cuban society, finds himself falling in love with the sexy, liberated Lina, a pioneering female dockworker.

Hong Sang-soo would appreciate the rich irony in this story of a Cuban director who wants to make a didactic film about machismo among dock workers and finds himself falling for a woman there; except that Alea never mocks his characters. Intelligently plotted and entertaining, avoids easy answers, is feminist in the best sense of the word, and shows a Cuba that, over twenty years post-revolution, is far from perfect.
Un choque discursivo entre el ideal de consciencia colectiva y el sujeto cultural masculino cubano. La imposición no para con el régimen; donde las ganas se juntan hasta los mayores principios se traicionan. Excelente material audiovisual.
