Ratings & Reviews

  1. HenriqueA's rating of the film Two Friends

A rather sublime little TV film that turned out to be the quietly outstanding feature debut of a singular voice in Cinema. Like an unusual mix of Alan Clarke + Agnès Varda, JaneCampion effortlessly tells a story about class struggle, feminism, and coming of age with slight Nouvelle Vague intonations that feels so real (the ending is jarring because it doesn't fit with the rest of the fim but it's kind of perfect).

  2. ASHES IN THE HOURGLASS's rating of the film Two Friends

In spite of the structure and the stylistically flamboyant ending, much of the tone and certain shots gave this film the feel of an Australian Ozu.

  6. Nancy Stark's rating of the film Two Friends

Class limitations all expressed by decor, one mean little scene after another. Sad. And kindof inexorable. Skillfully done. Campion's distinctive style. At one point I felt like if anyone opens that refrigerator door again, I'm gonna scream.
