A Catholic priest becomes involved in a medical experiment during which he is infected with a deadly virus. A strange transfusion cures him, but the blood, of unknown origin, turns him into a vampire. Attempting to remain chaste and faithful, he fights the carnal desires that begin to take over.

Una película que te dejará con una sensación de desasosiego y desconcierto. Excelentes actuaciones y finísima fotografía. Todo el filme, desde los temas que trata sutilmente (catolicismo, vida y muerte, culpabilidad) hasta la trama central y el final; es magnífico. Sin duda, una joya coreana. La historia avanza y vemos a los personajes transformarse y evolucionar y perseguir sus más primitivas pasiones. ¡Imperdible!
Probably one of the best vampire movies that I've ever seen, and a refreshing view on vampirism without trying to be neither mythological nor too damn serious on the subject in any way. Park Chan-wook proves once again that he is one of the finest directors of the modern era in filmmaking.
Just watched Thirst as a part of the Fantasy Filmfestival and I really have to say: Go and see this movie. BEautiful filmed as every Park film, well acted and a lots of humor in it. Nice twist in the vampire genre from one of todays best directors.

Two individuals seek reprieve from repression: one catholic, the other atheist. Where Park falls on the issue, favouring the moral framework of religion, might be iffy were not undercut by the moral fascism of the catholic character anyway. It's thematically messy, but he never makes saying mise en scene feel dirty. An apartment thriller that breathes when it hits empty city streets, a hot mess that's mainly hot.

Watched it for the second time, this time in Korean. Among other things I like Park Chan-wook's creation of sound visions to represent an extremely sensitve perception (best around 23', also with special use of camera).
As he makes more film, the comparisons with Hitchcock seem to jump out for me, in his work. A generally solid job, of basing the Vampire genre back in it's traditional roots of blood meets sex. The manner in which Park shows two people transforming in both a symbolic and physical sense is perfect. At times, the silent periods seem to scare more than anything else.
Some people believe horror movies should feature the horror off-screen to leave it to the imagination. Park Chan-Wook throws all reserve out the window and shows everything he feels like. There's nothing really subtle about this movie beyond the acting and the dialog, and scenes range from carefully crafted ensembles to single takes between cuts. Also features the rawest, dirtiest virginal sex ever seen on camera.
