Synopsis

The life journey of the eldest son of a family in 1950s Texas, from his childhood innocence to his disillusioned adult years. In a quest for meaning he questions the origins of life and the existence of faith, as he deals with his bitter, often tyrannical father and his ethereal, nurturing mother.

The Tree of Life was, and still is, for me and for many others, one of the great, shattering events in the cinema. And seven years later, it has only become more powerful.

The Tree of Life was a pivotal progression for the filmmaker; it marked the point where the basis for his language had been established and he was now able to add depth to it, to add additional meaning based on the unique codes he had already crafted.
