The genesis of the monstrous Leatherface is recounted in this shocking slasher flick, which begins as two Vietnam-bound brothers, out for a last fling with their girlfriends, crash their Jeep — and end up in a heap of trouble.

Like its '03 predecessor, it checks all the boxes of a bad mainstream Hollywood horror film: too slick production that minimizes its taboo and dangerous feel, thin characterization and meaning, lack of purpose, uncreative and ineffective false and jump scares, and a lack of true suspense and tension. Plus... its dialogue and tone of acting is bad (even from Ermey who feels like a caricature) making it just silly.
This movie leads you to the roots of Hewitt's family - and let me say it was a dangerous but delightful (in a sadistic way) ride - and although it follows the Hollywood's horror formula, this movie is shocking, strong and violent, delivering everything you desire and what you don't in a horror movie!
A prequel to the remake that surprisingly is the most consistent timeline in the entire franchise, TCM the Beginning is an alright movie. Though that might be due to the utter shit that is the rest of the series that makes me view this a little kinder. Typical mid-2000s slasher with all that implies, this movie is saved slightly by the always great R. Lee Ermey
