A curious parallel to Zanussi's 'Life...Disease', which displays behind the seemingly trite and didactic proceedings a director's care for his characters. Zanussi's 'kulturkritik' traverses the path of Zulawski's own demons of hell on earth, but unlike the latter's hugely traumatic redemptions, the ascent to a corporeally rich spiritual life of characters who err is given here a mundane dignity of cinematic vision.

Returning to the themes of 'Love...disease', is the proof that Zanussi's dedication to the description of the human condition is indeed his vocation. We return to the previous film and to some of the same circumstances but from a different point of view, in a further investigation of humans' relationship with the infinite-God, our quest for meaning, and the mystery of love. Painful and sour, yet hinting at hope.

The title says it correctly. The film feel like part of supplement footage and could easily pass as deleted and extended scenes that was taken out of "Life As a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease" but seen as "distracting" to that film as this time around the focus is on the couple that struggle with their love life during the same time period. Too much recycled footage sadly stops the film to a halt for me.

Very temperate movie; such were made regularly before East European revolution(~1990) - so they are kind of obsolete. One main subject is religion, and Polish people are the most religious in Europe, so it hits home. The trials of the main character are somehow banal and end up banally.

Le sujet m'a vraiment plus. Tellement loin du cinema parisien... wouah, quel bol d'air cette réflexion sur la vocation et l'attente des voies de Dieu sur la question. C'est comme une plongée dans l'époque de mes parents quand ces réflexions sur la vie conforme à Dieu avaient encore du sens. Les deux personnages sont convaincants et bien campés... Après, je pardonne toutes les maladresses d'un film qui m'a touchée.

A part from the movie itself, whose I won't spend any word, I'm giving two stars because of the lack of precision of the italian and english subtitles. The movie deserves five stars, excellent, but the wrong subtitles can ruin it

I'm giving two stars because the subtitles in English and in Spanish don't work properly. I couldn't enjoy the movie. It's such a shame because the few dialogues I saw, were amazingly deep.
