  • Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Stud

Sunday supplement sexy or just the grub of the News of the World? Both, perhaps. Probably closer to the cheek of the Collins novels than later pallid TV movies, but the apocryphal ‘sensual & steamy’ it is not. It has a tawdry anti-charm presenting a smarter but still depressing view of a country on the skids. Collins cuts a suitable arch dash but it’s a pointless dabble in an unpleasant milieu with unpleasant people.

  • Maribou's rating of the film The Stud

I love this grubby British disco/sexploitation flick set around a nightclub where free love comes at a price & everybody uses everybody else. But this isn't Fassbinder. Erotic scenes that titillated audiences in 1978 are now comical. The script is bitchy trash. But it is Joan Collins's star turn as permanently-in-heat trophy wife that makes this a camp classic. A venal, tawdry, little affair. Wash your hands after
