Ratings & Reviews

  1. Benjamin Reid's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

Toxic masculinity: the movie. There is no reason to root for this romance. Barnal's character is super unlikable, and the fact that Gainsbourg lets him get away with all the stuff he does is nonsensical. There is not even tragedy to make him sympathetic. The film is visually cool and should maybe work by reading it as satire, but it's such an uncomfortable nightmare. Also, what's with all the random homophobia?

  2. riceball's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

It's a really charming story with really whimsical set pieces and interesting characters that really drives home how much imagination is a part of our lives. Gondry just has it down pat when it comes to dreams. Loved Gael Garcia Bernal and Charlotte Gainsbourg in this as well.

  3. Eric Porcelluzzi's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

  4. tubbssw's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

The screenplay, especially the fantasy sequences, is very good but the romantic subplot gradually takes over the film and slows it down.

  5. I.Camera's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

After Eternal Sunshine, Gondry was given to the keys to the castle when developing the visual style of his follow up and, for better and for worse, this is the result. The switching between wild oneiric imagery and more mundane interactions between Stephane & Stephanie (the rest of the cast acting as a Greek chorus) is initially fun but grates towards the end, esp. as the screenplay lacks Kaufman's character depth.

  6. arinaesto's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

Creative, open-hearted, explores the boundaries of reality and dreams, and love..

  7. Krish sanghvi's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

On When dreaming becomes a coping mechanism. Such a charming and lovely film! I love the way Michel gondry works with memory, love, and fantasy in his films.

  8. Europudding's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

I haven't seen this in many years but I remember it being quite cute with the stop-motion and playing with dreams. It also introduced me to Charlotte Gainsbourg <3 Unfortunately, I had a lot of problems with the character of Stéphane, a manchild who behaves very inappropriately to Stéphanie throughout the film.

  9. henningninneh's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

It's fun when you watch it for the first time. Then, behind the quirky ideas and the charming effects, not much remains. Also, Mr. Bernal gets on my nerves really quick.

  11. OldGermanCurrency's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

  12. Aulia Indry's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

Simply when we understand what Stephane sees and feels, it means we are already in his wild imagination. And as easy as that we fall in love with the imagination of Stephanie and Stephane. And I don't feel dizzy at all

  14. Alice Cerconi's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

"Dreams: some random thoughts + a little bit reminiscences of the day + some memories from the past + love/friendships/relationships & all those "ships" + songs you heard during the day, things you saw & also... personal."

  15. Epinephrin's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

I loved everything about this film - ideas, putting everything into place, GGB and CG are great as always (two of my favourite actors). It remembered me about Boris Vian, one of my fav authors of all time. "Randomness is very difficult to achieve"

Eigentlich gehört doch alles dazu. Alle Gedanken und alle Träume, die können nur leider nicht von anderen gesehen werden. Hier schon!

my kind of film, loved it.

  18. Louis Robert's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

La réalité et le rêve sont si bien ficelés, on oubli tout et on se laisse emporter dans l’univers de Gondry.

  19. Dan Kenneth Gigernes's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

t is a low-key drama but it is also enormously charming and never feels artificial or untrue to what it wants to tell. I love it and it has excellent acting and memorable surreal imagery which I love.

  20. nvmore's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

it was great but the whole „i like you bcuz ure different & everyone is boring” thing at the end had me rolling my eyes so bad

  23. The Boreal Chorus's rating of the film The Science of Sleep

A cute but tiresome date film for high school or freshman college art students that requires no effort on the viewer's part (except perhaps staying awake), and with a nice catchy song for good luck. Good luck.
