Another Petersen dive into mega-production spectacle this time in the garb of proletarian (fishermen) struggle for everyday-life and the dangers that ensue in oceanic unpredictability. The film is watchable only up to the point of character depiction before sailing to catch big fish. Thus, the diverse characters who will emerge create empathy, before they turn into helpless puppets of a digitally unimpressive storm.
Well, this movie sucked. By the way, I just noticed this is a Wolfgang Peterson film. I can't believe this is the same guy that made the brilliant Das Boot. Do yourself a favor and go watch that instead. Right now.
Reality show "The Deadliest Catch" done right as it really show that the job can end in death. As a catastrophe movie this movie is realistic and actually show that not even the most famous Hollywood star can survive nature making this film everything but a "happy ending" film for the hamburger and pizza- movie generation.
