Disturbing, fascinating surreal short. It has a dreamy quality mixed to eroticism only to be find again later in Maya Deren's work. Or maybe some kind of dark belgian Buñuel. The music added to it is a fantastic contribution to the intriguing atmosphere. Each cut seems to carry you deeper into Cocteau's nightmares. A pearl indeed !
1929 is also the year of 'Un Chien Andalou', not surprisingly, with which this movie shares similar themes. It's also expressionistic, amateurish, and sensual. The soundtrack provided by Mireille Capelle moves it firmly into the realm of the strange.
