Mark Sway is a boy torn between what he knows and what he can’t say. A hitman will kill him if Mark reveals what he knows about a murder. A federal prosecutor will keep the pressure on until Mark tells all. His only ally is a courageous but unseasoned attorney who risks everything for him.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
This movie doesn’t deserve Sarandon and Jones. One of the all-time “what ifs” is the Roy-Love spin-off. Alas, here we are, with a 2 star film that MAKES NO SENSE!! It’s predicated on a kid not revealing one piece of information, and there’s no reason for him not to reveal said information. Much to my chagrin, one of the weakest Grisham adaptations. Long live The Fiiiiiiirm.
Despite a convoluted plot that finishes in an anti-climatic way, what makes The Client a good film, and head and shoulders above most Grisham adaptations, are the film's inspired and well-realized characters. With a roster of great actors, The Client is a film that is essentially a masterclass of great acting.
Based on John Grisham's book. "The Client" starts promising, but soon after it can't keep-up the tension. It's entertaining & amusing but it unintensionally de-rails into a comedic rather than a dramatic & thrilling direction (keyword: stupid Mafiosi, stupid FBI). That's the issue here, the lack of convincing 'real crime'. Overall medicore. 2,5 stars.
