An idealistic film about the potential for ‘new cities’ to arise from the mire that America’s cities were then perceived to be descending into.
1998 | Winner: National Film Registry
The narrator is so bad, incredibly annoying. The images are great. Watch it with the sound off, or replace with a soundtrack of your own choosing.
Evocative editing, immediate imagery, and skillful scoring coalesce in this left leaning, urban spurning doc that yearns for the idyllic city setting.
35mm. The beauty of the images counterfeited by the doctrinal tone of the commentary off and its respective structure.
Not a huge fan of the narration, but the visual storytelling and Copland's score make up for it in my opinion.
