The Boys might at the core of Australia's preoccupation with ugly and disturbing film subjects. With it I would say Snowtown & Hounds of Love are redundant - it shows the least and is the strongest in invoking the violence that is latent in our inane 'culture'. It is effective, but why? To create mistrust, justify the tough penal system the country was built on? Wenham is that 'primal' only young performers achieve.
