Not bad at all, this was actually a surprise for me. I wasn't expecting much from this flick but I find it pretty good, a sci fi movie mixed with romance filled with a vintage flavour. A mix of many movies from the past, Dark City and Inception, Total Recall and The Matrix and so on. But without special fx. By the way, who said that Kafka is not funny?
Despite it's hokey premise the film manages to entertain solely on the chemistry between Damon and Blunt. I would rather have seen them in a straight up romantic drama without the messy sci-fi elements.
At first it was really annoying that the character decided to ignore the sociological, historical, and political implications of what is going on for something so banal as his love life, but then it was really refreshing and awesome that he ignored the sociological, historical, and political implications of what is going on for something more humble like his love life. --DiB
1 hour passed after movie and I'm still crying... Think for a second, movies you've watched since you were 10... No, since you were 4 and now choose the worst one. Ok, now multiple this sickness with 5... No, with 10. Congratulations, you've just picked "the one".
I'm still crying cause I've watched my number one tonight. What have I done Mr. Chairman to get watch this s**t :(
Decent entertainment for a rainy day. Nothing amazing. No artistry, no cinema epiphanies. However, the chemistry between the leads is pretty good. I haven't seen chemistry like that since Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Doutey in Chabrol's "La Fleur du mal" (really good chemistry there). I'm assuming the Phillip K. Dick story is probably pretty good though, hope to read that sometime soon.
It has a nice concept but slight problem with the screenplay and execution. The movie carries uneven tone between SciFi conspiracy and love drama. The script doesn't have major plot twists, there is almost no actions in it, there isn't much exploration of the conspiracy, and there isn't even much passion between the two lovers, so the film doesn't have an impact as a love story either. Could've been better.
I really wanted to like this movie. Anything based on PKD I am automatically on board with. But everything felt so flat and unexplained in a way that didn't leave me intrigued but annoyed. The resolution to the film was utterly unsatisfying and for such a cool and creative idea, the final product came off very unimaginative and tired.
Great story. Brilliant premise. A tad hiccup-y in the beginning to middle of act 2, as if it was having trouble finding it's stylistic footing, but it resolved itself very well. Breathtaking production design, major kudos to the location manager. Excellently edited. Beautifully shot. It could've gone with a little less scoring though. The music was a bit overbearing at times. Wonderful film, overall.
