The question that has plagued thinkers and philosophers for centuries was asked by that teen girl: "why are the hot ones so unreliable?". *mulls over* (who's Chloë's hair person? Her hair looks amazing in Walking Dead land!) I found pretty sweet that those two kids sung a Coldplay song to fall asleep. I smell teen franchise here.
I'm usually the first to condemn or break the positive buzz surrounding many of these teen novel adaptations, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A great sense of buildup that doesn't mind slowing down in the middle to pick back up at the end, a real brutally honest look at loss and destruction amid total chaos, great special effects throughout, and a solid twist. First really good film of 2016.
Such a waste of metaphorical potential. So many glimpes of biblical, apocalyptic, human-hubris guilt trip clues. Nothing new, but still an interesting arrangement of ideas, all in a boring teenage adventure flick not that adventurous or instructive or entertaining. Watched it all without realizing it was an adaptation. And now knowing it was, it looks even a bit more of a waste. Hope it's just a bad adaptation.
The suckage was intense. This Red Dawn with aliens/Walking Dead ripoff didn't even bother to tell the whole story. The sight of middle school children in army gear was ridiculous, not to mention that I figured out the movie almost from the beginning.
Derivative YA twaddle that wastes its actors and a budget of $54m on Doctor Who-level CGI. The adaptation - a riff on Wyndham's Kraken Wakes - is abysmally realised, as the galaxy's dumbest alien invaders decide to go duck hunting after teenagers (who've survived the apocalypse with six-pack abs, unblemished skin and salon haircuts) using nonsensical deception tactics. Most of the cast I wished dead after 30 mins.
