Not as bad as I was lead to believe. Once the tone changed after the OBG/YN scene Teeth got way more fun, admittedly disturbingly fun. The prosthetic dongs with animal imagery was funny even if the tone of the movie was even. The final scene with the creepy old man licking his lips was priceless.
Teeth is hilarious. The opening scene strikes the right balance between tongue-in-cheek and teeth in you know what. "I haven't even jerked off since Easter!" Oedipus would have approved of the truly twisted step-brother and his aptly named Rottweiler, "Mother." And even the scenes of Jess googling "v*gina dentata" and tripping out on its meaning for her, were hilarious. Well done.
Of course it's not a good film. But it's the daddy of ensuing teenage horror movies that are themed around 21st century mythology (see It Follows and Unfriended for examples). And what came after is actually quite good.
A poorly executed concept, Teeth is tonally inconsistent and ultimately fails to capture either pure horror or a comedic spin on the genre. The comedy that is present, intentional or otherwise, has an uncomfortably goofy edge, tainting what could have been a meaningful narrative about sexual discovery and anxiety into something that harbours a lot less ambition.
