Parillaud is marvelous as she navigates the difficult task of being a female director. She's got to be the boss, but in such a way that her cast and crew don't feel threatened by her bossiness. A ridiculous situation, but that's how it goes under the patriarchy. Her manipulation of the "talent" over the course of the film to get them in the "right" frame of mind for the sex scene is scarily masterful. Great pacing.
