Senna

Directed by Asif Kapadia
United Kingdom, France, 2010
Documentary, Biography, Sport

Synopsis

A documentary about arguably the greatest Formula 1 driver of his generation, and undoubtedly the fastest, Brazil’s most famous racing son Ayrton Senna. Compiled of archive footage, it follows the driving superstar’s characteristically speedy rise from the go-kart circuit to his deadly crash.

Our take

Much like his follow-up film Amy, Academy Award-winner Asif Kapadia displays his unique approach to archive and the documentary form in the carefully-crafted Formula One thriller Senna. Narratively ambitious, nail-biting and nerve-wracking.
