Famed mystery writer, Mort Rainey (Depp) is confronted by a mysterious stranger outside his house. This stranger calls himself John Shooter (Turturro) and claims that Mort has stolen an idea for a story from him.

[DVRd - AXN] Kept thinking about 'that other time' he might have done it, i.e. plagiarized. Not sure what to feel about the final twist. 'those two corpses' (but there are 4 deaths, no?) Really liked the mirror scene: very Cocteau-ish. Koepp is a good screenwriter and King is novel canon peak but i felt this was too literary & staged and it never left the comfort of its source material. Semi-fun ride. Depp's hair hot
“This is not my beautiful house. This is not my beautiful wife.” Unjustly overlooked, here's a suave Hitchcockian thriller that is only nominally interested in the Big Twist (crackable 10mins in). Instead, the focus is on atmosphere and author Mort Rainey who is morbidly stricken by his wife's infidelity and a bad case of writer's block. Deliciously dry-witted, its got Johnny Depp in top form eating Doritos and corn.
Slow pacing, totally predictable and boring. No frills, no thrills. There was a lack of a coherent thought followed through. And the suppose "clever twist" doesn't come as a surprise to me, I guess because I've seen better. But the part before you find out who-dun-it are interesting and pretty neat. Johnny Depp is a good actor, but he could not prevent this boat from sinking. I'd assume the book was better?
Few of King's stories translate to film with good results. Secret Window is an exception, thanks to Depp's spot-on performance as Mort Rainey. King injects at lot of humor into his horror, and Depp manages to pull it off nicely. Fun to watch, and the ending to the story remains intact, thank you. Good supporting cast.
The editor & director failed this movie. Story has good bones, script is totally fine, but man is the execution sloppy & in the way. Twist is obvious in first 10 minutes due to total lack of subtlety. Depp is legit here (excusing his hair) as a Dorito-muncher but Turturro is an unbelievable cartoon mess. Film thinks viewer is an idiot, like itself, so over-explains. A real shame 1.75
Pretty close to the original novella by Stephen King about a writer who gets stalked by a man who claims that he stole his story. it goes over classic ground from the writer, but I liked how the film built itself up and the film has a different ending that is actually better than the one originally written. Johnny Depp is solid without the usual quirkiness too.
