This is fabulous for kids. My 2 1/2yr old loved this. We have been spoilt by the Toy Story triptych into thinking every animation will be fun for adults too. Sometimes high-budget animations really are just for the little ones.
Beautifully bright, this sweet animated entry from the Ice Age crew ties the simple story of two stolen blue macaws: Blu, humanised by his contact with humans; and Jewel, wildly aggressive after her placement in captivity to try and ensure the continuation of their species. Nicely voiced, the film features some nice set musical numbers that don't feel completely manufactured. It's pure fun.
As entertainment, it is quite nice and funny. In the other hand, it´s impossible to close the eyes and pretend that the same fantasies and clichés about Brazil and Brazilians are not being reinforced here. Going against Lúcia Murat´s argument that clichés about Brazil are created by international films, Carlos Saldanha, like Murati herself, proves that fantasies about Brazil are born nowhere other than here.
