The [REC] series ends with a whimper. While Part 3 was criticized for going the horror/comedy route, "Apocalypse" devolves into run-of-the-mill zombie movie fare. The demonic angle that made the first installment so unique is dropped, while the filmmakers indulge many of the worst tendencies of the 'chaos cinema' style. This is the first [REC] that is indistinguishable from any of Hollywood's "Resident Evil" films.
2 - For all the bad things you can say about "[REC] 3" (and there is plenty to say), the least you can do is give it a smiley sticker for trying to be something different. "[REC] 4", on the other hand, is a Z-grade Spanish "Resident Evil" knockoff whose undisputed highlight is a scene in which a zombie monkey gets killed with a skillet.
