In France to shoot a TV project, a film director named Jerzy is over budget and uninspired. While on the set of his movie, he becomes interested in the unfolding struggle of a young factory worker, Isabelle. She has been fired by her boss Michel, who did not approve her union activities.

Critics reviews

Throughout Passion, Godard seems to approach the medium as if it were just discovered, as he tries to undo the assumptions about the essence of cinema while losing himself to happy accidents and obsessions. Although the film dredges at points, the overall experience has an air of celebration as Godard pulls together both theory and poetry, showcasing that pleasure and estrangement are not antithetical.

The director of the film-within-a-film is making tableaux vivants based on classics of art, including Rembrandt’s “The Night Watch,” and there’s so much going on in each frame that even a Blu-ray wouldn’t do the painterly nuances justice.
