Ratings & Reviews

  1. Graveyard Poet's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Louise Brooks embodies the "flapper" spirit of her Lost Generation in this sexually charged and erotic silent melodrama ahead of its time in its depiction of the divide between men and the feminine psyche. It tragically ends in the Depression setting winter slums of Soho during Christmas time.

  2. Christopher Taylor's rating of the film Pandora's Box

A must see and a trend setter, establishing the bar for sex appeal and substance equally with a melodramatic story from a particular time and place.

  3. HobartLazaro's rating of the film Pandora's Box

  4. Arcanus's rating of the film Pandora's Box

A great and disturbing film. If you get a chance to see Pandora's box, don't miss it.

  5. MegaMeg's rating of the film Pandora's Box

    Great actress, great director.

  6. color'd's rating of the film Pandora's Box

great strong images, with Louise Brooks demanding you to pay attention to her, maybe a little long but the more time you get with Louise the better

  7. Dave's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Louise Brooks is the most magnetic on-screen persona that I have ever seen. Ever.

  8. axsaxs's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Beautiful, but bleak. Though entertaining, is too long; inevitably, is a little dated.

  9. Enghebatu's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Poor innocent Alwa. He had better to kill Lulu. Truly the masterpiece. There is a proverb; "Beautiful women can't live happily". May be, it's true. Beware of some Pandora who catch the box like Lulu.. :^P

  10. xuxuxush's rating of the film Pandora's Box

beautiful aesthetics. Boring, flat, overly simplistic story. too long

  11. Rene Naranjo's rating of the film Pandora's Box

A real masterpiece and one of the best films of all time.

  12. Alex Flores's rating of the film Pandora's Box

This movie is mostly especial because of Louise Brooks, The film itself is very good buy I am not crazy about it.

  13. Aaken's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Nearly 90 years later, Louise Brooks' portrayal of Wedekind's character is both extremely modern and timeless. The fact that she merely did a couple of more films after this one add to its legendary status. A milestone in cinema.

  14. Mark Johns's rating of the film Pandora's Box

so grateful Pandora's Box finally released on Criterion. Beautiful Louise Brooks in her finest role. Everyone that Lulu meets become smitten by her beauty and free spirit, wanting to possess her in order capture that which they can't have. Sad that her voice was not accepted in "soundies", so her career ended with the silent era.

  15. Andre's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Rest purely on the shoulders of brooks. Although i dont like the character at all, brooks brings out all the qualities in lulu that i can sympathise with. every frame she is in is a wonder to watch. The criterion dvd is also beautifully put together.

  16. hideloveaway's rating of the film Pandora's Box

I found this movie really depressing. However, Louise Brooks was gorgeous.

  19. CriterionRefs's rating of the film Pandora's Box

I blogged about this movie here: http://criterionreflections.blogspot.com/2009/01/pandoras-box-358.html

  20. ArmandS's rating of the film Pandora's Box

Louise Brooks is the cinema's first "modern" actress, in my books. This film, along with "Diary of a Lost Girl" (which, I have to admit, I enjoy a bit more than "Pandora's Box", though some will undoubtedly argue the point) shows the reason why, plain and simple.
