What are people saying?

  • Bilouaustria's rating of the film Out of the Present

Ujica always works with stunning archives, the ones on Ceausescu in Romania but also with these spectacular scenes in Moscow (the middle section of this film). The other archives are actually interesting as well, images of USSR in the early nineties, and first hand documents about life in space. It is just hard to stop watching. On earth meanwhile, a lot is happening : «Out of the present» is indeed a great title.

  • Noli Manaig's rating of the film Out of the Present

Away from the present, the here and now of earth, an intimate portrait of cosmonauts in outer space. Down here, the USSR is about to implode. Up there, the cosmonauts confess to a playful childishness, in contrast, perhaps, to the Promethean boast about a giant leap for mankind. Unable to witness historical & familial events while in space suggests a sacrifice on their part: beyond transcendence, a yearning for earth
