Oldboy

올드보이

Directed by Park Chan-wook
South Korea, 2003
Drama, Thriller, Mystery

Synopsis

Imprisoned by a mysterious, sadistic captor for 15 years, Oh Dae-su survives only because of his will to get even with the villain who has made his life a living hell. But when he’s suddenly released without explanation, he finds himself further plunged into a Kafkaesque conspiracy.

Our take

The centerpiece of Park Chan-wook’s thematic triptych, The Vengeance trilogy, is also one of the most popular international hits of the 2000s: an extreme hyper-surreal revenge saga that spasms with energy and has blown minds the world over. Winner of the Cannes Grand Prix. In HD.

Oldboy Directed by Park Chan-wook
It’s a grand, gritty, indelible experience, the sort of picture that mimics great literature in the way it envelops you in a well-told story while also evoking subtle but strong gradations of emotion.
