NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is the wild, untold story of “OZPLOITATION” movies – a time when Australian cinema got its gear off and showed the world a full-frontal explosion of sex, violence, horror and foot-to-the-floor, full bore action!

Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! Directed byMark Hartley
Chronicling the late boom in Australian cinema & offering with it a veritable treasure trove of cult movies for fans to track down, Not Quite Hollywood also works to chart the sociological progression of Australian culture, its attitudes & identity, during the middle-to-late part of the 20th Century. It's this aspect that elevates the film above other, similar documentaries consisting of anecdotal evidence.
Very interesting and entertaining at the same time. I thought I knew about Australian cinema but actually I had seen only a handful of Ozploitation films. I will definitely check out Wake up In Fright now, the Long Weekend and some Brian Trenchard Smith films thanks to this,
I always find it interesting to watch documentaries about parts of film history that I'm not too familiar with, and this delivered in droves. Everyone involved really loves film, and the amount of crazy stories that are delivered really captures the true insanity of the period. I also came away with tons of movies I need to see which is always a nice thing to happen when watching documentaries like this.
