Catherine is a successful Parisian gynecologist whose long-term marriage to Bernard has been passionless as of late. Worried that his affections might be straying, she hires Nathalie, a beautiful matter-of-fact prostitute, to make a pass at Bernard and report back.

Great composition & editing. The moments with Joy Division, Leonard Cohen worked well. Wanted more pop music. Could've gone for more with the mom, as well as the son. Needs more from Marlène's life. A very minimal role for Depardieu would've worked really well, way too much Catherine glaring at Bernard. Loved the two of them socializing together, though. The American remake wasn't better but had more erotic energy.
Nathalie is a victim of her own hypnotic beauty. She even gets used by the impenetrable (literally) wife, who is unable to forgive the possibility Nathalie may have stolen her husband, yet happily forgets his 'routine' cheating. A film about a selfish woman hating woman.
really quite enjoyed this, but I am not sure what. The plot surprise did not work for me, neither did the constructed moral dilemma, but still I was left with the feeling I had been through something worthy of my attention. Maybe it is because of the way the film downplays yet acknowledges tensions at all points a refreshing difference from mainstream drama.
The credits point to something sophisticated. This isn't. It's like a bad soap opera but with more attractive and gifted actors (although they can't shine in this). I gave it the benefit of the doubt for half an hour and then gave up.
