The soundtrack has been candid all season . . . and the Led Zeppelin track that’s threaded through this tenth and final episode underlines Holden’s mind-set in permanent marker . . . That contrast between lyrics that reassure — “Just believe, and you can’t go wrong” — and music that suggests inner turbulence gets at Holden’s precarious state of the end of Mindhunter’s first season. He’s arrogant enough to believe he’s in the right under any circumstances, but falling apart on the inside.

Featuring a great turn from Cameron Britton as prim psychopath Ed Kemper (aka ‘The Co-Ed Killer’), the show both examines and exploits the public fascination with gruesome murder. And for stylistic flourish, look no further than Fincher’s virtuoso montage of quotidian business travel in Episode 2. Airport lounges and cheap motels were never used so effectively.

  • chanandre's rating of the film Mindhunter

[Netflix] There is so much audiovisual juice to extract from this. The rise of "my only mistake (insert Joy Division song) was to ever have doubted myself" was scarier than all those serial killers he studied and talked to. His cowboy approach by the end is understandable. Future crime police indeed. Dead right about exposing the perverted principal and to manipulate criminals in order to get results IRL. Season2now

  • Slow Immersion's rating of the film Mindhunter

S2 - It took me a second viewing to fully appreciate S1 and I was super excited to watch S2 today, watched all 9 episodes in about 11 hours and it may well be my favourite show on TV right now. Quite filmic and feels like an extended film as opposed to some shows which feel segmented. Looking forward to future seasons.

  • Lights in the Dusk's rating of the film Mindhunter

It would've been nice had the series not clung so tightly to every cliché in the cop movie playbook, but nonetheless, this is exhilarating drama. I loved the way the conversations with the various murderers created parallels & insinuations in the lives of its protagonists, finding that Nietzschean concept of the abyss staring back. The slow burn aesthetic & emphasis on dialog over sensationalism was much appreciated.

  • ig_____or's rating of the film Mindhunter

"Mindhunter" subverts the expectations for this kind of show by not showing you the victims, the killings or the crime scenes. Pretty much everything is left for the viewer to imagine, which can prove disappointing to some. However, I think that the characters, dialogues and production values make it very entertaining. Dr. Carr and Ed Kemper were standouts but the leading duo is also quite charming. Season 2, please.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Mindhunter

You can imagine the dollar signs in the Netflix executive's eyes when somebody pitched this as "'Mad Men' meets 'Se7en'!" - but "Mindhunter" belies its elevator pitch with one of the most absorbing shows of the Peak TV era. It makes sense as this is very much David Fincher's territory: process, procedure, investigation. In Holden Ford, he finally has a protagonist as interesting as the killers who so fascinate him.

  • Annalee's rating of the film Mindhunter

Highly interesting yet mediocre. Cameron Britton was absolutely amazing in his portrayal of Edmund Kemper! Hands down the best actor in the series. Jonathan Groff fell short, per usual, in his role. Completely unbelievable in his role. I also felt that Anna Torv was miscast in this, as well.

  • Addy K.'s rating of the film Mindhunter

With MINDHUNTER, Fincher flicks his "people are perverts" maxim to slow burn. Directing 4 of 10 episodes, his precise visual style and combative intellectualism emerge as distinct signifiers. A pastiche of SOCIAL NETWORK, GONE GIRL and ZODIAC, the ten hours fully allow Fincher to explore personal themes: a brilliant young man vs. monolithic hierarchy; his estrangement from the mainstream not dissimilar to 'deviants'.

  • MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Mindhunter

This truly is an anomaly: there is no on-screen violence whatsoever, and yet, this is the most terrifying series of the year. It's not a "whodunnit" - all the cards are on the table - and yet it is compelling and intriguing. It's basically ten hours of conversations, and yet it feels incredible intense and puts most action-based series to shame. A true gem. PS It is set in the same universe as Manhunt: Unabomber.
