Diego is a matador unable to get back into the ring after having been impaled by a bull. He is reduced to teaching the art of bullfighting to younger folks, including a fan, Angel, (Banderas) who is a little twisted: he can’t stand the sight of blood. A Pedro Almodóvar brilliant early black comedy.

This is an intense psycho sexual drama with beautiful vibrant colors and Hitchcockian undertones. Nacho Martinez puts off a Jeremy Irons vibe and gives a brilliant performance alongside the striking Assumpta Serna and Antonio Banderas shines in an early role. Almodovar coming into his own as an artist and pushing the boundaries of human emotion and the correlation between sex and death.
Even if one does not like a certain Almodóvar film, they will ever be able to say that it was not photographed beautifully. Each shot is composed so carefully, that the films are worth watching even if only for the cinematography. The story is not as great as some of his other films, but it's not boring. I felt the first few minutes were a bit too uncomfortable, but overall, the film works perfectly for me.
I love Almodovar movies because they are silly and fun. They are also extremely stylish. The first movie of his I saw was 'Women on the Verge' and it had the most amazing titles. It really puts you in a good mood for the actual movie.
Tries to shock so much that the meaningful and parodic depiction of traditional social interactions and romanticism kind of gets lost in the basket of horrible behaviours. Not my favourite, and the director feels in a rage through the film as well, which takes away from my viewing pleasure.
Assumpta Serna and Nacho Martínez play composed, murderous whores in Almodóvar's melodramatic sexual thriller. The director's mise-en-scène is pastoral and well-framed, leaving signature kitsch to the subject matter. The standout scene for me may be the voyeuristic close-ups of an amateur matador practice. Never apologize for being queer! It becomes hokey in a way that works better in ¡Átame! Young Antonio tho.
