Lock, Stock and Two Smoking BarrelsDirected byGuy Ritchie
Expectations were kinda low after being slightly disappointed by Snatch. but in all honestly I can say that I think this is a significantly better movie. The story was more interesting and everything about it was just more badass. Really enjoyed this one.
A wonderful movie with a colorful cast and a plot that keeps careening both left and right keeping you interested and invested. Just about every actor gets time to shine making this ensamble piece a real fun time.
I did like Snatch better but this was easily one of the best crime thrillers that emphasized style in the wake of Pulp Fiction. Ritchie needs to get back there.
Watching it again after many years, the 'witty' verbiage rings more self-conscious than impressive, as does a filmmaking style thoroughly soaked in Tarantino and MTV. Its posturing gangster masculinity is also irksome if that kind of thing bothers you (didn't then, but it does now). But it's still a fun watch, and the narrative gymnastics have lost none of their sheen despite Ritchie subsequently rehashing himself.
Un petit 7/10,
Dans la lignée de Snatch, un cran en dessous.
Je ne suis pas particulièrement un adepte de ce style à l'anglaise mais nombreux aimeront.
This movie is so extremely similar to its "spiritual successor" Snatch - including several of the same actors and some very similar songs - that I find it almost impossible to judge on its own merits. I can only judge it based on how it compares to Snatch and in that regard, it is inferior in every way. It's fun enough on its own but I can't find much reason to watch this when Snatch exists. It gets a B-.
Classic and I do wish Guy Ritchie would go back to making films like these as they will always be 10 times better than whatever plastic he's putting out now.
Just pure fun - the cast is great, the story is quick and going places with fun characters, nice general style, witty dialogue. Hard to believe Ritchie went to Aladdin from this.
