Salma, a widow from a Palestinian village, makes a meagre living from her lemon grove. However, when Israeli Defense Minister Navon moves in across the way, his security guards demand she removes the trees, which could shelter terrorists. As Salma refuses to bow down, a legal battle ensues.

sehr berührender film, der auf subtile weise darstellt, dass es in diesem konflikt keine gewinner und verlierer, sondern nur verlierer gibt, schauspielerisch überzeugend dargestellt am beispiel der beiden frauenfiguren
There are some big shortcomings.
"Lemon Tree" tries to be both poetic and realistic at the same time. While the Arab protagonist is a glorified stoic angle the Defense minister and his know-it-all harsh attitude is very much spot on. But this realism is destroyed by the calm attitude on the Palestinian side which is so out of character for the region.
This movie warms and makes my heart aches at the same time, the inner struggles of people shifts from the inside to the outside, a woman like my mother, my grandmother and her grandmother before her, who had to stand tall and brave face to face against misogyny, misogyny as politics, politics as an oppressor for the weak individual, frustration portrayed as it's finest and still she stands so hopeful and beautiful!
There are no winners. What a film ! I have to think about it.
Hiam Abbass has a fantastic performance.
Why are we intoxicated with „Planet of the apes“ and such powerful films like this one are completely unknown.
