"You want a drink? I got drinks." Last Night's relatively upbeat, light-drenched apocalypse might make a nice chaser to Melancholia. Both films climax in Earth-obliterating collisions with foreign bodies, but von Trier's is truly foreign, a space invader, while McKellar's is, well, family--the very same, life-giving sun that stars on the "get well soon" cards drawn by Patrick's wife's students as she lay dying.
A haunting and deceptively simple film. Begins as a delightfully Canadian character drama but somehow pulls you into the question of the film. I loved how little was explained about the cause which made its impact so universal.
