Critics reviews

A Western spy, stranded in the former East, needs to find his way to the West, and Godard uses the journey as a cinematic travelogue through the historical imagination—Goethe and Hegel, the two World Wars and medieval dragons, Fritz Lang and Roberto Rossellini, punk and Shostakovich. It is also a luminous gray-on-gray portrait of new-old Germany in winter. The self-portrait is Godard nearing winter, a literal self-portrait… that makes exquisite use of new miniature video cameras.
