Jay and Claire have sex every Wednesday in a shabby London flat, but don’t even know each other’s names. One day Jay decides to follow Claire, bringing him to the theatre where she is performing, where he befriends a man whose wife is appearing in the production.

How this movie isn't better appreciated is beyond me. Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox are both beautiful and fascinating in their roles. Then there's also Marianne Faithfull to round it all off, perfect as always.
You talk. You'll ruin it. You reveal feelings, you're dead. You don't reveal them, dead you are. Damn. Life's no worth. I mean love's not. This is a great film that shows us that. That human feelings, relations (relationships - always did love the ship part on relationships i mean ships of relation, relations that sail on, off of, out of, from, out on ships.It's poetic), etc are a pit, a pitfall, a fall, and A death.
The sex scenes are really very erotic, but I can't say much for the rest of the film. A great opportunity to use fast forward and rewind, or just click back and forth if you are watching on youtube. The "good parts" are mostly in the beginning:)
Terrible title; "Wednesday Man" would be better. Well-done sex scenes. Great performance by Kelly Fox. Mark Rylance, one of the best British stage actors, is saddled with very overwrought, egotistical tirades. I loved Hanif Kureishi's "My Beautiful Laundrette"; his stories expose how cruel we can be to those we love, as well as British xenophobia at its worst. This script though feels too contrived and old-fashioned.
Last Tango in a shithole, starring assholes. Sex without love or intimacy isn't really sex. It's a form of mutual masturbation where you grind body parts together. That type of sex is actually the opposite of intimacy. Which is the point.

Illusionen, Festgefahrenheit von Lebensentwürfen und Abhängigkeit klingen an. Die Geschichte hat ihre emotionalen und inspirierenden Momente, bleibt am Ende, wie die Beziehung der beiden Hauptdarsteller: flüchtig leidenschaftlich, distanziert und wenig nachhaltig befriedigend.
this film was a nice meditation on relationships, anonymity, intimacy, marriage. you talk, you will spoil it. good acting, i was drown into it. especially because the themes are so real. the film didnt judge, didnt offer real answers. is it the intimacy more important than sex? what counts more for intimacy-their one day a week affaire or the marriage of Claire?
Fucking regardless of how much you are convinced it´s anonymous fun it´s rather a mirror of yourself.
It´s about the difference between phantom intimacy you think you`re experiencing but the big question remains whats real or only your imagination. In some ways Ray´s behavior stayed obscure which still strikes me.
Could get some more tension in some scenes but overall soberness matches the topic.
