Critics reviews

The movie’s pacing isn’t nearly as brisk as it could be, and the lines of dialogue Ghostbusters heads love and quote most—“He slimed me”—sound like a parody of dumb comedy writing, the sort usually accompanied by an aggressively fake laugh track. By the end, the picture’s spirit is gloomy and ill-humored, as if it had tried hard to be a dark comedy and simply failed, leaving a vaguely sour taste in its wake.

GHOSTBUSTERS is suffused with a particular heteronormative, ascetic intellectual machismo from start to finish. Feminine promiscuity, for example, is definitively linked here to demonic possession, and the absurd Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is defeated only through the violation of a puerile “stream-crossing” taboo, with our heroes simultaneously jizzing nuclear-powered laser beams into the glammy, gender-ambiguous Gozer’s icy ziggurat. A very serious diversion.

  • LauraPalmer's rating of the film Ghostbusters

I think the last time I watched this film I was 6 years old (and yes, before have rewatched it, I was still able to remember some scenes!). But now I'm 23 and I recognise it: I didn't really know how much I love this film.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Ghostbusters

A perfect 80´s gem with spot on casting and some zany dialogue delivery from Murray et al. The score and FX are pretty great as well. But the best thing is that it keeps everything together with light horror tropes, witty scripting and inspired acting.

  • Z's rating of the film Ghostbusters

The apotheosis of slob comedy. Several under achieving dilettantes go into business for themselves." Personally I liked the university, they gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college, you don't know what it's like out there! I've worked in the private sector! They expect results!"This classic will never be duplicated or equaled. From the hip, silly, droll fun.

  • Ethan's rating of the film Ghostbusters

This is one of my favorite films from my childhood. Bill Murray has always been a badass. I am also really looking forward to the reboot of this classic film. If Murray says it's good, you all should be satisfied.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Ghostbusters

Sheer analog pleasure. It's not hard to see why "Ghostbusters" so enraptured me as a child: its use of practical effects, including glorious matte paintings and puppetry work, helped create the impression that, unseen to the human eye, an ethereal spirit world was waiting for its chance to break through to our reality. As an adult, I salute the impeccable comedic chops of Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, and company.

  • Gylfi's rating of the film Ghostbusters

"During the rectification of the Vuldronaii, the Traveler came as a large, moving Torb. Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him - that of a giant Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day, I can tell you" A movie that has dialogue like this can't be bad.

  • mjgildea's rating of the film Ghostbusters

An absolute classic that goes to show a great movie doesn't need to necessarily be a well-made one. Ghostbusters is full of classic lines and great scenes, If you don't laugh at least once during this movie, you've got serious problems...

  • Rafael Zen's rating of the film Ghostbusters

The phantasmagoric universe crafted for Ghostbusters is still cool : i did not remember this film to be so atmospheric ( its colors, effects, puppetry, pace, hue, rythm ) and silly : for being this naive within its own dark humor it appeals to our early monsters and therefore reaches a special place of nostalgia : plus + sigourney weaver will get extra points for every scifi she ever gets herself into.
