Madeline Carroll has a gift but father and son Loskis are very annoying characters, which means one of the two sides of the storytelling is dumb. I enjoyed just the Bakers part.
this film forgets one of the most important rules in screenwritting: "show, don't tell" and if you want to tell a good story don't only use Voice Overs, it's lazy and it feels like you're writting a book.
Every rom com cliche thrown into a preteen romance story. Reiner tries to distract us from the deeply bland script the "aw shucks" flavor of the fifties that he had with Stand By Me and a nifty narrative device that shows both sides of the coin. It all feels too forced here and the device too gimmicky. If that's not enough, the performances all range here from average to laughably bad.
Touchy and cliché but honestly, who give's a damn about that when your heart is melting @ the simplest form of love.
I'm a sucker for childhood love stories ala "Fan Chan".

I was like having this grin like a retarded after the film ended. I watched it again the next day and again, and still felt satisfied by it! It is nice knowing a film that really worth watching by teens (kids) nowadays.
