Critics reviews

Rue and Jules’s relationship is the jewel of “Euphoria.” I’ll keep watching because I desperately want to protect them. Otherwise, the show so far (I’ve seen four episodes) is a highly self-conscious study of ennui, overfull with fancy camera tricks and thousand-dollar designer getups.

  • chanandre's rating of the film Euphoria

[HBO PT] "And quite frankly i'm just fucking exhausted" - Thank you! Someone who writes from within the world of anxiety, self-hate/self-loathing, hyper-ventilation, Pfizer meds (Lyrica, Xanax, etc) to calm you up or to make you go numb and sleep your pain off: van gogh, plath &britney (yup three references of mine, even if i'm more cocteau, dickinson and chan marshall but yeah, i should be less anal about stuff). <3

  • MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Euphoria

Specifically created for Gen Xers so that they could worry about Gen Zers and Millennials ("Kids these days"), Euphoria glamorizes depression, faux nihilism, drug addiction, teen-age self-abasement, casual sex and make up porn to ignite pseudo-controversies and long exegeses on the New Yorker etc. It's all so predictable & harmless. I wish Gaspar Noé were in charge. The title is both ironic and moronic. Try Sephoria.

  • Rafael Zen's rating of the film Euphoria

1 What's the point of approaching deconstructed subjects if you do it in the most normative way possible? / 2 Has this teen soap opera really finished season one with that corny videoclip coreography? / 3 There are not enough nude scenes in the universe capable of making this interesting, Ms. HBO / 4 At the end, I was so underwhelmed I wished them all to overdose / 5 Why are romantic couples still necessary?

  • Slow Immersion's rating of the film Euphoria

2.5 - The first 2-3 episodes made think this could be one of the most interesting shows of the year; sadly it got worse and worse with each episode after the initial opening. I think Zendaya made the opening interesting, but the other characters and threads weren't interesting. Almost lost interest in the final two episodes and lucky it was only 8 episodes for this season.

  • smndvdcl's rating of the film Euphoria

Despite an overuse of the tracking zoom for emphasis, this is a compelling rites-of-passage that tackles depression and addiction with a shattering performance from Zendaya. At points, it descends into soap opera stereotypes, but at its peak, a profoundly creative vision of Centennial adolescence in crisis which also transcends heteronormative representation.

  • Mayka's rating of the film Euphoria

This tries so hard and yet ends up being so boring , after three episodes it just goes into full teen soap opera just with a lot of glitter and flashing lights. Its strange that American media is so obsessed with teenagers and yet there are so few films that actually capture how being a teen feels like.Minus one star for the unbearable last episode that was like 80% musical montage sequences ....just don't.

  • Antares Rising's rating of the film Euphoria

Among the television series I've seen over the last several years, the British series, Skins, is among my top 10. I've raised 2 children, one a teen in the 90s and the other a teen this past decade. The struggles of teens in Skins were visceral and moving. Perhaps Euphoria offers some insights and reflects more current experiences, but not convincingly. Maybe trying too hard?

  • Dan's rating of the film Euphoria

You know how there are these moments that are pure feeling that if you try and describe them you might say something like "and there's an entire church choir of about 60 carrying me through the streets and throwing me in the air" so, you don't because it's fucking embarrassing and more than a little crazy? That's Euphoria. It's not the makeup, music, performances it's the OTT dazzle of pure feeling. Thank you, Sam L.
