Dracula Untold Directed by Gary Shore

Critics reviews

There’s nothing new under the moon in “Dracula Untold,” a decorous but dull origin story that attempts to turn history’s most famous vampire into a kind of male Maleficent — a misunderstood husband/father/ruler who turned to the dark side out of the noblest intentions.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Dracula Untold

I will echo the sentiment that this is much better than I anticipated though it falls short of Universal's hope in starting another 'monster' legacy. Performances are strong for the genre and production values are quite impressive at times. The revisionist history of Vlad may irk some but hey it's a 'freakin' Dracula film. Good setup at conclusion but somehow doubt continuation on this middling box office success.

  • Addy K.'s rating of the film Dracula Untold

Better than it has any right to be, DRACULA UNTOLD is efficiently directed by Gary Shore who combines fantasy elements, comic book tropes and Dracula lore with his burning desire to remake GAME OF THRONES and BATMAN BEGINS. Charles Dance from THRONES appears as Master Vampire, while Luke Evans as Vlad is happy to play both a detective and dark knight. There's even the hint of a political allegory. Not bad, Hollywood!

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Dracula Untold

Visually-striking (at least, most of the time) romp through the Vlad Tepes/Dracula myths that includes far more fantasy battle scenes than horror - which was expected and enjoyable. I expect that the hate this is receiving is mostly Turkish people and snobs. Though, I must admit I was annoyed by the seemingly random accents, haircuts, and the rather plain climax.

  • oldeuboi's rating of the film Dracula Untold

It's supposedly interesting when the 'Van Helsing' meet 'Games of Thrones' ringing around a film. But with the result as bland as this, that's quite an overstatement. I don't mind generic or formulaic films, actually. As long as it's fascinating to watch. While it has some nice visual effect and occasionally entertaining, but sadly this film rarely fascinated me.

  • Daniel Iván's rating of the film Dracula Untold

Not a bad idea (linking the story of Vlad Tepes with the Dracula mythos), but so poorly executed it turns out a flacid tale with no real structure or charm. Hollywood has a huge debt with Vlad: a movie capable of portraying the hardcore history of state, power, violence and horror that gave birth to the Draculea nightmare.

  • Giles J Davis's rating of the film Dracula Untold

If you are looking into the history of Vlad Tepes and correlations with the contemporary crusades let alone the traditional Dracula mythos, think again. Dracula Untold is a wonderfully misguided and camp romp that snowballs with absurdities as the film reaches it's climax. LOTR & GOT fallout actors a-plenty, this movie is actually very reminiscent of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. A romantically silly, ripping yarn.

  • Patricia's rating of the film Dracula Untold

Eye roll... but I did enjoy the cinematography. There were moments where I felt the inspo was drawn from a comic book-like. But then again... give the actors a british accent and "BOOM!" they are all of a sudden from transylvania and get the turks to be more western looking then anything...

  • Levent Güçer's rating of the film Dracula Untold

+1 star only because it was hilarious to see my triggered fellow countrymen raging about the inaccuracies in a fantasy story. You can't take the chauven out of a Turk, even the most sensible ones are bound to let it out at some point
