It's like Hickenlooper wanted to make his own version of Soderbergh's THE INFORMANT, but just couldn't pull it off. Most of the actors (esp. Spacey) vacillate between being in on the joke and just pretending they are, Jon Lovitz is miscast in a role that looks (on paper) to be right up his alley, the "I'M BEING WHIMSICAL" soundtrack is obnoxious, and the script / direction either pulls its punches or over-swings.
This fictionalized take on the Jack Abramoff tale goes way too over the top to work, especially when compared to Alex Gibney's superior documentary version of the story. http://eddieonfilm.blogspot.com/2011/01/its-not-alright-jack-movie.html
