What are people saying?

  • Richmond Hill's rating of the film Cal

A plain and straightforward rendering - and all the better for it - of love split asunder on political and religious lines. Nothing unique there and true it is this type of story has been told in many variants elsewhere - it’s similar in vein to a BBC Play for Today entry - but its strength lies in its quiet tenderness and sharply drawn observations. Lynch is gauchely effective as the lovelorn youth.
