A return to form for William Friedkin, this remarkably intense thriller is a claustrophobic two-hander with two excellent leads: paranoid Michael Shannon, and panicked Ashley Judd. Adapted from his own play by the Pulitzer-winning Tracy Letts, who partnered with Friedkin again on Killer Joe.
