Critics reviews

The film would come to influence the Newman-Redford classic The Sting (1973), but is so feebly directed by comparison and so heavily reliant on exhausted gangster tropes and clichéd biopic setpieces, it now looks and feels like a plundering of the period stylings of The Sting three years avant la lettre, right down to composer Claude Bolling’s ragtime piano plinkings.
