2 1/2 out of 5 stars. Bachelorette felt like Bridesmaids knockoff with way less likable characters and way more snark. The Lizzy Caplan/Adam Scott storyline was okay (temporarily filling the hole that the absence of Party Down has left in my life) and there were a few laughs along the way but the only other saving grace was the brief running time. That aside, who cares?
An ok effort but way too messy for its own good. The movie tries to juggle too many styles and themes and is ultimately crushed by its own ambition. The jokes somewhat funny but come out just cruel and bitter. The human tragedy and drama of the story is too briefly handled to add up to anything. And rarely have I seen so unsympathetic and cruel lead characters for a suppossed dramedy.
If this wasn't so horribly written and every single cast member didn't seem like they had no idea what to do with their role, this could have been pretty great. Let's get a better Party Down reunion for Scott and Caplan, along with some more bitch roles for Dunst (preferably ones that are actually well written). So much potential and yet such a mess.
the chemistry between Caplan and Scott works so well it could have just been ninety one minutes of them two and I would have been happy. It definitely has its moments, it's not a side hurting laugh a-thon but it will make you giggle and feel feelings.
