A team of archaeologists heads toward a ‘hot zone’ in Antarctica and finds an underground pyramid. There, they make an even more terrifying discovery: two alien races engaged in the ultimate battle. Whoever wins… we lose.

A classic work of Artainment that undoubtedly proves you can cast non-caucasian female heroes & make a killing at the box-office. A compelling hero that protects her own, leads fearlessly ("When I lead my team I don’t leave my team"), rock climbs, & kicks butt taking names. How do you say "scared shitless" in Italian? 'Non vedo l'ora di uscire da questo piramide con te, perché mi sto cagando addosso. More or less'.▽
Ironically, it's the creature-on-creature violence that disappoints in this, the action perhaps hampered by 2004-era CGI, but the mythology here? I'm all for Paul W.S. Anderson's pulpy, "Chariots of the Gods" riff on the Predator and Alien backstory: ancient civilizations granted knowledge by hunter-gods from space, pyramids buried under the ice of Antarctica, an imprisoned alien queen giving birth every 100 years.
If Lehtonen and I ever actually made that Space Hulk film, this would be one of the major influences. The way it captures the shifting of light around columns or the lone beams of a flashlight drowning in a sea of infinitely threatening black is mesmerizing.
Am I guilty for enjoying this film? This was never a good idea in the first place but it still is an enjoyable ride. The characters are meh but I feel that they at least "tried" to give them some flesh. But on an action level, its really solid. Setting the movie inside of an underground pyramid in Antarctica (lol) is perfect to isolate the characters. This film is called Alien vs Predator, and this is what it is.
Joining both franchises was definitely not the smartest way of milking them. The film is filled with silly scenes and the cast is weak but I still felt it was pretty claustrophobic and kind of a guilty pleasure.
Took itself too seriously, Paul W.S Anderson got too inventive for his own good with the histories of the species. Bad CG, bad acting, bad script, bad editing, bad sets and light on with the tone/violence to boot so it could get a accessible rating for young people.
Speaking as a huge Alien series fan, in my opinion this wasted time, we could've seen more Alien films. Instead, we got this. At least Requiem was fun
