This is a hilarious screwball comedy that never lets up. You will pretty much laugh the whole way through this movie is that funny and Cary Grant is an absolute delight here.
I love everything about this movie. I've seen a couple different versions of this play. Grant is really good at that hysteria/anxiety thing. Most important is that it's Capra without the Corn.
For the people who did not like this movie, did you see His GIrl Friday? Talk about pantomime, Cary was such a doofus. Also, Katherine Hepburn plays one of the most annoying characters of all time.
Amusing screwball comedy, but I agree that it probably went on too long. Coupled with that, I was disappointed that the aunts ultimately turned out to be less of a feature of the story than Mortimer's brother, Jonathan. Still, enjoyable for the rampant misunderstandings, and for Cary Grant's madcap performance in the lead role. Also, some really nice touches of expressionistic lighting here and there.
I wanted so badly to enjoy this picture, but saccharine, hamfisted Capra was there to thwart me at every turn. Way too broad, almost none of the jokes land well. Only saving graces were occasional moments of darkness from the spinsters and Cary Grant's physical comedy.
