After the death of her beloved teenage son in an accident, Roth leaves Madrid for Barcelona to cope with her grief, hook up with old friends, and – just maybe – contact the long-estranged father the boy never knew.

Even-though I like the themes it deals with, I wasn't impressed. It looked a bit like a patchwork of eccentric characters and storylines just thrown together. The bright colour schemes and compositions were good, and so were the actors and the soundtrack, but it could have used a more restrained plot.
Wow. I mean... wow. Truly a beautiful cinematic experience. The colors, the characters, the music all completely resonated with me on a very deep level. This is only my 3rd Almodovar, and yet I'm already convinced of his genius. A truly gifted filmmaker. Oh, and I loved the dedication at the end.
Almodovar's love letter to the various sides of womanhood. What struck me, seeing this film in a packed house at the Metrograph, is how the heroines dabble in different societal roles for women—nurse, mother, whore, nun, diva—but are still defined by their individuality, bonding in a microcosm where men are scarcely present. The other coup is the balance of tones; mixing comedy with an HIV diagnosis takes skill.
Really adore how this film made as a tribute with a lot of feminism element. Surely undoubtedly One Of Almodovars's very finest ( although he himself seems didn't comfortable for being so prestigious at work )
Such a lovely film! Anyone who loves their mother should watch this one. Almodovar brings such compassion, humanity and humor to his characters that they almost seem real despite acting like they're in a telenovela. Oh, and the colors! Each scene is so meticulously framed, staged, and shot. Every camera movement perfect! Almodovar is one of the great directors of our age.
This movie introduced me to Almodovar and the rest of his work after this flick got all the big Oscar buzz it deserved. Though what a weird one to get chosen: it's a bizarre blend of tevenovela, magical realism and gay colourfulness. It's among his best and most important movies.
