Provides an extraordinary account of low cunning at the heart of Greece’s 2015 financial bailout. The more defiant the left-wing Syriza government became, the more it was met with intimidation from some or duplicitous reassurance from others.

A disappointing critique of the EU/IMF austerity nomenclature that plunged Greece into socio-economic suffering. It is not that Costa-Gavras has no points to make. Rather he gets trapped into the labyrinth of depicted persons (PMs, high-rank officers, ministers) and thus fails to account for the wider milieu. Cheap tricks like the reification of metrics, the appalling dance scene, the facile score, turn uncinematic.
