Radegund, named after the small Austrian village where Jägerstätter was born. The village, in turn, was named for a 6th-century Catholic saint. When the German troops arrived in 1938, Jägerstätter was the only one in his village to vote against the Anschluss with Hitler’s Germany. He was executed.

In St. Radegund, Malick’s approach is nearly as fresh as it was in The New World, genuinely breathtaking at times and evoked through two touching, genuine embodiments by the actors.
