If the 2nd half would have been as good as the first, this one could have become one of my favorite movies. It still worth a watch definitly in my opinion ; it gets me want to watch more Greenaway when Cook, Thief, Wife, Lover didn't.
The particular scenes leading to the exposition of specific characters' self-psychoanalysis works well, and much of it is wonderfully written, as are a some of the comedic moments equally entertaining, but the acting's rather dry, in parts and could do with a bit of the purported vitality.
What do Japanese casinos and Swiss mansions have in common? They're both run by the guests, whether the owners know this or not. How is the death of a woman different from that of a man? She can be more easily replaced sexually by her surviving husband. What does all this mean? That money is heterosexual, for one thing. And that queerness is heterosexual too.
